ARC Raiders and Marathon lead the extraction renaissance but want different things from you. Here is how to pick.

IGN's Marathon review name-checked ARC Raiders as proof extraction shooters are having a moment. The two get compared constantly — but they are built on opposite ideas.

Tone

Marathon is creepy sci-fi on a dead colony. ARC Raiders is scrappy hope against machines. You feel the difference in ten minutes.

PvP intensity

Marathon is PvP-first. Other Runners are the main threat. ARC Raiders lets machines carry more danger; many runs never see a player fight. If third-party anxiety ruins games for you, ARC is gentler. If extraction without player threat feels hollow, Marathon is yours.

Progression

Both use seasons. Marathon's loop is stricter: factions, Codex, gear resets, Cryo Archive endgame. ARC Raiders respects a few-hours-a-week schedule better.

Many players rotate both. If Marathon wins, read our complete guide and Runner shell breakdown.
